Full speed for Sesam in China
The Sesam 2011 release attracted much attention at the DNV Software Conference for Sesam on 7-9 November in Hangzhou, China, where representatives from the major maritime and ocean engineering research institutes, yards and design companies attended.

Customers like CNOOC Research Centre, Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries, Cosco Nantong Shipyards, Tianjin University, CCCC Second Harbour Engineering company and Jiangsu University of Science and Technology presented user experience from their projects.
Sesam product manager, Ole Jan Nekstad, said in his presentation: "Sesam software has answered the call from the global offshore market need, especially the need for the modification and life extension of aged fixed platforms, new ship shaped types of floating structures etc." Moreover, topics such as deep water mooring systems and riser analysis, easy re-analysis of offshore floaters, migrating a structure to a modern architecture etc. was discussed during the conference.
Mr. Wu Shaobo, CCCC, found this a good opportunity to learn more about the Sesam software and gain knowledge from what other peers are doing in the industry, as well as a face to face chance to give valuable feedback to the product managers for future development.
From 1969, DNV has put great effort into the development and improvement of Sesam to be the world leading comprehensive strength assessment tool for maritime and offshore industries. With the development of global offshore O&G industry, the market share of Sesam grows significantly. The last years new sales shows solid growth, especially in China and other Asian markets. Sesam 2011 can do quick modeling, flexible changes during design, beam code checking, fatigue analysis, easy reporting etc. as well as flexible model and software version compatibility. The new wind module is also worth mentioning since it not only can handle the analysis of complicated supporting structures, but also simulate the movement of its installation process.
Are Føllesdal Tjønn, managing director of DNV Software, said in his opening speech that DNV Software is doing very well in China in terms of gaining market share and R&D capabilities. "The contribution of the China market to the global revenue is remarkable. We are providing products and services that satisfy the needs of the Chinese offshore industry through localization of sales, support and development forces,” says Tjønn.
Since 2006, DNV Software has established its 3rd development center in Shanghai, and now the number of Chinese employees has grown to be the second among all global Software employees. Tormod Svensen, regional manager of DNV Software APME, says: "The growth of the DNV Software team in China is very important to the sustainable development of DNV Software’s global business. It is very important to provide more localised services for China’s industrial needs. Prospective development potential and high quality local professionals are backing our confidence to continue our focus in China."
